The Western Plains Formosan Languages (working title)
Published in TBD, 2026
This book describes what we know of the Western Plains languages in Taiwan, all of which went extinct in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. I attempt to reconstruct the phonological systems of these languages based on a historical top-down comparison with Proto-Austronesian, as well as comparisons with what is known about other Formosan languages. Analyses on what the data tells us regarding their histories and classification within the Austronesian family are also provided.
